Florida Sprints League Championships – April 8, 2017

We had a great – though tiring – day of racing at the Tampa By-Pass Canal on Saturday. We’ve now got a couple weeks to rest and prepare for the State, Regionals, and National Championships. Up next: FSRA State Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, on April 29 & 30.

GIRLS TEAM

Wow! While Saturday was a long day of racing, the OARS girls continued to excel. We won all of our first round heats and quite a few of our 2nd and 3rd round heats. It was great to see some teams that we haven’t yet faced this year including CCR and Atlanta. It gives us a great perspective of the work we have to put in to prepare for both States & Regionals.

Here are the results from Saturday:

  • 1V – 4th place (though they had the 2nd fastest girls time of the day)
  • 2V – 2nd place
  • 3V – 1st place
  • 4V – 1st place
  • 5VA – 1st place
  • 5VB- 2nd place
  • 5VC – 4th place
  • Open 4 –  1st place
MEN’S TEAM
The coaches are very pleased with how all of our boats performed on Saturday.
  • 1V- 2nd
  • 2V- 1st [shout out to Michael George, a senior who started at OARS as a coxswain and has continuously put in the work to not only get into this lineup, but stroke it AND win against a very speedy AJRA crew, congrats Michael and the 2V!]
  • 3V- 2nd
  • 4V- 3rd
  • 5V- 4th
  • 6V- 3rd [shout out to Caden, Geoff, and Dylan who joined us this week and have been putting in a great effort to match up with the high schoolers. Without them, this eight wouldn’t have been able to race this weekend, thanks guys!]
These results confirm what the coaches have suspected since day one this season, we have tremendous potential as a team. From the 6V all the way up, you guys continue to push each other to get faster and any success felt by one boat or coach should be celebrated by all! That is why we need everyone to dial in and give us more than we’ve ever seen from you for these next 3 weeks of practice before states. Remember guys, we are a very much in the discussion for a TEAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, but no one is going to hand that to you. Put in the maximum effort mentally and physically each day and we can get there together. Who’s hungry??
GO OARS!!!
