Middle School Program
Time to register returning members and get locked in for the fall session.
Beginning in 6th grade, boys and girls are eligible for OARS Middle School program. Here, beginning rowers learn the basics of boat handling, the rowing stroke, fitness, and teamwork, among other things. While there are racing opportunities, they’re not as frequent at first as they are for the high school rowers.
Rowers and parents alike often see quick results in both strength and technical rowing prowess among Middle School rowers. Nonetheless, patient, expert coaching allows rowers to develop at their own speed and work into the habits that will serve them well in the years to come — not just in the boat, but in the rest of their lives as well.
Middle School rowers ordinarily practice three days each week: two afternoons after school and Saturday morning. One thing is for sure: the sport hooks kids at this age, and hooks them good. Word has gotten around — and as a result, the Middle School program has a long waiting list due to more applications than we have space for.
There are two sessions of Middle School Program per year, Spring and Fall. For details about cost, due dates, and other requirements, click here.
